Jewish Helping Hands invites applications for Tikkun Olam Grant program
Working in the United States and abroad, Jewish Helping Hands (JHH) aims to support needy and vulnerable populations, sponsoring projects that provide ground-level financial and hands-on support and make a difference where help is most needed.
JHH launched its Tikkun Olam Grant program in 2012 to advance the goal of inspiring and supporting tzedakah, justice, and righteousness worldwide. Through the program, in cooperation with local communities, JHH supports sustainable and scalable programs through financial and hands-on support to promote organizations and projects that will make a tangible and lasting difference in the lives of the populations they serve.
Grants of up to $10,000, depending upon geographic location, the local economy, etc., will be awarded to individuals or organizations that show clear promise to achieve one or both of the following: respond to unmet needs of those who are poor and/or marginalized, and promote self-help and empowerment within communities. JHH values programs and projects to bring about positive change for groups of all backgrounds and religious affiliations.
The 2023/2024 grant cycle focuses on projects providing the basic necessities for a decent life, including women’s empowerment, education, food, clothing, water, health, internet connectivity, and gender equity. JHH is also focusing especially on projects in these areas: East Africa, Central America, North America, any impoverished Jewish communities, and Israel.
JHH especially aims to partner with grassroots organizations and will prefer organizations with operating budgets under $750,000. JHH does not make grants to capital, building, political campaigns, scholarships, fellowships, programs administered by for-profit entities, or micro-loans. In addition, JHH grants cannot be used to subsidize administrative salaries or expenses, as JHH requires that 100 percent of all grants be used for the intended program.
Initial inquiry forms are due September 13, 2023, and selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application by November 7, 2023.
For complete program guidelines and application instructions, see the Jewish Helping Hands website.
