Tides Foundation Announces Fund for Drug Policy

The Tides Foundation has announced the Fund for Drug Policy Reform 2003 Cycle and is accepting proposals in the following sub-cycles:

Promoting Policy Change — Support for organizations working to shape public policy on local, state, and national levels through advocacy, grassroots organizing,and education. Approximately $495,000 will be available through this sub-cycle (Deadline: July 15, 2003).

Target Areas — A total of approximately $700,000 is available in three target areas: Latin America, for organizations based in Latin America working on drug policy reform (Deadline: August 1, 2003);

Communities of Color, for organizations working to organize communities of color in opposition to the war on drugs (Deadline: September 1, 2003);

Harm Reduction Support, for organizations using a harm-reduction framework to combat the dangers of IV drug use, in particular HIV/AIDS and overdose fatalities (Deadline: September 1, 2003).

Rapid Response/Special Opportunities — A monthly funding cycle for time-sensitive projects to respond to strategic public education, advocacy, and legislative opportunities to block drug-war initiatives or advancedrug-policy reform. The Fund for Drug Policy Reform will make grants on an ongoing basis until funding is exhausted. Approximately $3 million is available through this program (Deadline: Letters of Intent due on the first business day of the month).
