Taking Community Schools to Scale
An increasing number of schools are using the community school strategy to forge partnerships between schools, local organizations, institutions of higher education, and others with the intention of improving results for children and families. They are providing innovative academic and non-academic supports – with great success. But what’s the next step? How do you showcase the gains your community school initiative has made both explicitly and implicitly? How do you add more schools and build a system of community schools? What’s the best way to bring in additional partnerships? Learn how developing community school systems in Ogden, UT, Redwood City, CA, and Toledo, OH are taking their initiatives to the next level.
Presenters:
Kathleen Bideaux – Ogden Community Schools (Ogden School District)
Sandra Portasio – Redwood 2020 (Redwood City School District)
Angeline Lee, Greg Braylock – Schools as Community Hubs (United Way of Toledo)

Tax Credit Outreach for Low-Income Families (co-sponsored by the National Women’s Law Center)
Rent, groceries, medical bills, car payments…and the list goes on. Life is expensive, but believe it or not, tax season can actually help! That’s because thousands of dollars are available as tax credits to many eligible families.
Unfortunately, millions of dollars of these federal and state tax credits go unclaimed each year. As members of the Coalition for Community Schools, you are uniquely positioned to spread the word about these credits to families in your community. This webinar will include an overview of available tax credits, a discussion on the policy landscape, and tips and how to get the word out to eligible families.
Presenters:
Joan Entmacher – National Women’s Law Center
Amy Matsui – National Women’s Law Center

Teacher Voice: How Unions Guide Community School Initiatives
Recent events have highlighted situations where school districts and teacher unions have clashed on the best way to reform education in their community. The Community School strategy, however, is one education reform that is uniting unions, district administrators, and the community. On this webinar national and local leaders will explain how union representation in community school leadership teams can help teachers perform their jobs more efficiently and effectively. After all, teachers know their students and families needs and strengths and serve as a critical part of any successful community school.
Presenters:
Bill Raabe – National Education Association
Shital Shah – American Federation of Teachers
Keith Gambill – Evansville Teachers Association
Julie Sellers – Cincinnati Federation of Teachers
