Faith conference discusses state of service delivery efforts
A conference on The State of Faith-Based Service-Delivery Efforts in Philadelphia will be held on Friday, October 28th, 9am – 2pm, at Sharon Baptist Church, 3955 Conshohocken Avenue in Philadelphia.
In 2010, a pilot study pioneered a new quantitative approach to understand the economic impact of houses of worship. Over 50 different factors were used and concluded that, in Philadelphia, 12 congregations contributed $52 million in annual value (averaging $4.3 million per congregation).
The conference is based on the belief that faith congregations must now be viewed as critical economic catalysts in the community.
The conference, sponsored by Bishop Mary Ministries, Partners for Sacred Places and the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy and Practice, will feature national, state and local service providers, academicians, political and faith-based leaders who have a vested interest in improving the quantity and quality of faith-based service providers at such a crucial time in our nation’s history.
The goals of the conference include the unveiling of efforts to measure the existing footprint and quantify the public value of faith- based, service delivery efforts in Philadelphia; to spotlight effective models of faith-based service delivery; and to connect strategically located and under-utilized faith-based centers with hands-on technical assistance, capacity-building and resources.
