See First Hand River Pollution as you tour Fairmount Water Works
The Schuylkill Upstream
Saturday, November 12, 1 to 4 pm
Take a ride upstream and see first-hand how neighboring communities affect Philadelphia water. In 1909 river pollution forced the closing of the Fairmount Water Works. Nearly 100 years later, the Philadelphia Water Department continues to monitor waste, storm water run-off, and other sources of pollution. Compared to 100 years ago, we have made remarkable progress. But how do we measure progress? Are regional water quality issues the same? Philadelphia Water Department’s Public Education Manager Drew Brown and Source Water Protection Manager Chris Crockett will put these questions and more into perspective.
