Money is the life’s blood of every nonprofit organization. An organization spends a great deal of time and resources raising it and spending it. But sometimes an organization fails to dedicate the same amount of time and resources to properly managing its funds.
As the past five years have shown, many nonprofits are one bad financial event away from slashing their staff and programs or completely closing their doors. Even storied organizations like Hull House in Chicago have had to cease operations because key leaders of the organization were not able to overcome the financial weakness of the organization.
The goal of this seminar is to help educate Board members and nonprofit leaders about some of the key elements of financial management, including IRS and state law requirements; the responsibilities of the finance director and the role of the independent auditor; how the Board and its finance and audit committees best exercise financial oversight over the organization; and how an organization can ensure its long term financial viability.
This seminar is designed for executive directors, directors of administration, board members, and other generalists responsible for dealing with the financial affairs of the organization. It is also suitable for employees and volunteers who deal with the financial affairs of the organization and wish to strengthen their skills in critical areas.
