The Institute for Community Leadership Internships

We are looking for individuals 18 years of age and older to join our team.

The Institute for Community Leadership (ICL) is dedicated to creativity, leadership and justice in education. ICL has 1 to 6 week intensive internships available during the summer. These internships are part of our National Youth Nonviolence Leadership Institute which travels across the West Coast between June 24-Aug 9. The 2002 NYNLI has internships available in South Puget Sound, Oakland, Yakima, Spokane and Eugene, Oregon.

The Institute for Community Leadership’s Nation Nonviolence Leadership Corps (NNLC) Summer Session promotes nonviolence and social justice in education. For six weeks during the summer, the NNLC travels to cities across the West Coast. NNLC hosts over 100 teens (20-30 each week) that go into summer school programs and municipalities to provide nonviolence-leadership education. All NNLC workshops and activities are based on the principles social justice. The dynamic project takes place from the June 23-August 9. In each city, the NNLC is hosted by a local school and we set up camp in the school gymnasium.

June 23-29 in Seattle, Washington

July 1-12 in Oakland, California

July 14-20 in Yakima, Washington

July 21-27 in Spokane, Washington

July 28-Aug 3 in Seattle, Washington

Aug 4-10 in Eugene, Oregon

Interns will join a multi-racial team of youth and adults, participate in NYNLI workshops in public schools, study and practice nonviolence and work for justice. Interns will have the opportunity to be trained in the ICL Leadership Poetry Workshop curriculum and facilitate these workshops in public school settings.

The Coaching Peace with Justice Internship program will introduce participants to:
?Components of nonviolence and tools to integrating nonviolence into work, home, community and school

?Pedagogy, ideology and structure of the Institute for Community Leadership’s nationally renowned Leadership Poetry Workshop curriculum utilizing poetry to coach students in nonviolence and social justice leadership skills

?Avenues and methods for integrating into the ongoing struggle for civil and human rights around the world

These internships are great for educators, activists, youth workers and individuals committed to social justice and social change. Interns also have the opportunity to be trained in the ICL curriculum and become paid facilitators of our Leadership Poetry Workshops.
