The End of Isolation Tour, a Traveling Theatrical Production of “The BOX” – Aug 13
Posted by Pulitzer Center on July 19, 2022
The K-12 education team at the Pulitzer Center is very excited to invite a limited number of middle and high school educators in select cities to performances of the play, The BOX. These special performances will explore the underreported impacts of solitary confinement, mass incarceration, and the criminal justice system.
The play was written by Pulitzer Center grantee Sarah Shourd, a survivor of solitary confinement, and is performed by a cast that includes several formerly incarcerated actors performing in replications of solitary confinement cells. Learn more about the play’s inception here.
We are excited to provide a limited number of free tickets to interested educators at performances of The BOX in Philadelphia on Saturday, August 13 from 7:30-10:30 PM at Eastern State Penitentiary.
Educators who register to attend will receive a free ticket to the performance, and will work with Pulitzer Center staff to analyze and reflect on the performance by participating in the following:
- A Zoom orientation introducing the Pulitzer Center’s mission and resources, and an overview of the play’s themes and development process, on Tuesday, July 26, Tuesday, August 2 or Tuesday, August 16 from 5:30-6:30pm CT.
- A 30-minute post-show discussion in the theater after the performance with all participating educators to discuss immediate reactions. (This discussion will be recorded for internal documentation.)
- A short, post-show survey.
Interested in attending? Please fill out this form as soon as you can to register for your ticket and the accompanying reflection event.
Given the limited availability of free tickets for educators, we will confirm participants for this program on a first come, first serve basis. If your participation is confirmed, we will respond by sending a ticket receipt and calendar invite for the pre-performance zoom orientation. Don’t delay, these free tickets are going fast!
