The Community Knows What the Community Needs

When it comes to building partnerships, Charisse Iglesias, PhD, has organized meetings and sessions to support partnerships between community members and university researchers. The structure is flexible, but the overall goal is to curate a space that challenges power dynamics and allows productive discussion that prioritizes community expertise and lived experiences. In many of these meetings, there can sometimes be a tone of university researchers knowing more than community members about their own communities when in reality, the community knows what the community needs.
