The Greater Philadelphia Book Bank is back in operation.
The Book Bank, closed for the summer, reopens next week with over 2.5 million free books available to residents of the Tri-State Area. The Book Bank offers a large selection of textbooks in most subjects for all grade levels. There is also a vast collection of fictional and non-fictional work. These books are free to educators, nonprofit, as well as the reading public.
Location: 5th & Luzerne (site of the old Roberto Clemente School). Accessible by car as well as by mass transit. Need directions?? Call Book Bank at 215-227-2570.
Hours of Operation: Open Tuesdays (10am-5pm) for teachers and nonprofits. (Wednesday (10am-3pm) for teachers and nonprofits. Thursdays (10am-3pm) for the general public. The Book Bank will also be open to the general reading public on the second Saturday of each month from 10am-3pm beginning September 14th.
By the way, the Book Bank has a need for mature volunteers. Also, the Book Bank collects used textbooks as well as other books and related materials from educational institutions, libraries, private collections, book sellers and distributors across the region. It then makes these books available AT NO COST to institutions, groups and individuals who can use them. CALL: 215-227-2570 for information.
The Goal of the Book Bank: Three books for each Philadelphian: One book that has been read; One book that is being read; and One book that will be read.
