The Authentic Youth Engagement in Policy Framework
Posted by Child Trends on May 6, 2025
Young people can participate in shaping policies that impact their lives to a far greater extent than many adults invite. The Authentic Youth Engagement in Policy Framework is a new roadmap for more effectively bringing these youth into the policy creation process, co-developed by youth, adults in youth-serving organizations, and Child Trends, with support from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation’s Foster Youth and Opportunity Youth Initiatives.
The framework covers what roles youth can excel in, how to engage them at every stage in policy creation, how organizations can best support them, and what unique external factors to consider when working with young people.
The blog laying out this framework is a preview of the Youth Engagement in Policy Study that will be released in a full report with an accompanying webinar this summer.
