Position Title: FMV Preliminary Hearing Coordinator

Organization/Program Summary: Families of Murder Victims (FMV) is a program of the Anti-Violence Partnership of Philadelphia, a non-profit organization that strives to address the cycle of violence within families—-from prevention to treatment. FMV provides information, advocacy, and emotional support to the
families and friends of homicide victims. FMV works in conjunction with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office and the Philadelphia Police Department/Homicide Detectives.
Position Summary: The FMV Preliminary Hearing Coordinator is the lead in first contact with families that have lost a loved one due to homicide. The FMV Preliminary Hearing Coordinator provides direct services to co-victims of homicide over the telephone and in court. The FMV Preliminary Hearing Coordinator is responsible, reliable, organized, and committed to advocating on behalf of homicide covictims.
Key Responsibilities:
– Court Accompaniment
– Provide Informal Counseling
– Provides basic criminal justice information and case status information to co-victims
– Assists co-victims with Crime Victim Compensation applications
– Assists the FMV Program Director in training and monitoring interns and volunteers
– Manage and coordinate Preliminary Hearing advocacy and support for co-victims
– Organize and maintain a system of outreach and follow-up to co-victims
– Assist with monthly service delivery statistics collection and recording
– Participates in community outreach efforts and other victim service projects when appropriate. Knowledge and Skills Required:
– Bachelors Degree or commensurate experience in social work, human services, psychology, or criminal justice
– Strong written and verbal communication skills.
– Strong organizational skills with an ability to work in high activity environment and multitask.
– Ability to work as a team player as well as independently and takes initiative.
– Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
– Understanding of Traumatic Bereavement
– Passion for criminal justice and direct service to crime victims
– Sensitivity to cultural and economic differences.
– Knowledge of local resources and service pool.
– Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries with co-victims.
