Tech Volunteer Day
Posted by on October 22, 2004
On Friday, November 12th, NPower PA will host a free community event, ?Stop the Spyware!? – a Tech Volunteer Day exclusively for nonprofits. Trained volunteers from area corporations will head to small and medium-sized nonprofits in the Philadelphia region to stop the Spyware.
Yours could be one of them.
Spyware is a catch all term used for many different types of programs that are unknowingly installed on our computers; hijacking browsers, popping up ads, and gathering personal information about a person or organization without their knowledge.
We are targeting nonprofits that don’t have in-house IT staff. Does this describe your organization? If so, you may not be familiar with the signs and symptoms of Spyware and the tools and knowledge you need to detect and remove it. We have encountered dozens of small nonprofits in the last few months that been crippled by slow performing PCs and didn’t know what had hit them (Spyware of course). Our goal for this event is to not only rid your PCs of Spyware but also to train one of your staff members to perform ongoing maintenance to your organization’s PCs to prevent future Spyware incursions. See the attached Philadelphia Inquirer article (PDF) for more information about NPower PA?s efforts to assist nonprofits with stopping Spyware.
I encourage you to register your organization today!
