Nominations Sought for New Verizon Tech Savvy Awards Program
Deadline: January 12, 2007
Nominations for the 2007 Verizon Tech Savvy Awards are now being accepted. These are the first national awards honoring U.S. programs that improve parent’s and children’s understanding and use of technology.
The Verizon Tech Savvy Awards were established by the National Center for Family Literacy (<a href="http://www.famlit.org/">http://www.famlit.org/</a>), the Verizon Foundation (<a href="http://foundation.verizon.com/">http://foundation.verizon.com/</a>), and the First Lady of Iowa, Christie Vilsack, a Verizon Literacy Champion.
Four regional awards of $5,000 each and one national award of $25,000 will be presented annually. In addition, award winners will receive a scholarship to attend NCFL’s annual conference, the National Conference on Family Literacy, and to participate in the awards presentation at the conference. The scholarship includes conference registration fees and a travel stipend of $2,000.
Successful programs should create innovative ways to employ technology as an important component in family literacy that are easily replicated at other sites across the United States.
Organizations that are 501(c)(3) nonprofits, such as community-based nonprofits, libraries, and schools, are invited to apply. Religious or sectarian organizations may apply only if the program(s) offered serve a broad cross-section of the community.
Organizations should apply within one of the regions (East, Midwest, Mountain/Southwest, or West/Northwest) specified on the program map (available at the NCFL Web site).
For complete program information, an awards nomination form, or to send a notice about the awards to a colleague, visit the NCFL Web site.
