The Peopling of Philadelphia Collaborative Inc.and The American Swedish Historical Museum present Immigration, Migration, and Diversity in South Philadelphia:A Neighborhood History Workshop

August 22,23,26,27,28,29,30 – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To meet Pennsylvania Education Standards for Humanities and History and to make local history relevant and therefore more memorable to students, this Immigration, Migration, and Diversity Workshop will help teachers build interactive lessons for the classroom and activities for service learning projects in the community. Teachers will keep a daily reflection journal and compile materials in a portfolio for classroom use. Teachers will select those workshop materials that are relevant to the ethnic and racial demographics of their school neighborhood to give students a sense of identity and self-esteem. Relating neighborhood social history to that of the city insures a better understanding of social and economic trends. The focus of these efforts is to promote pride in one?s own heritage and understanding and respect for that of others. The public is welcome to all sessions.

Fifty Act 48 credit hours can be earned.
