2018-19 NBA Math Hoops Season
The NBA Math Hoops calendar is broken up into 12 sessions that run parallel to the NBA season. Typically, the program is implemented for 45-90 minutes per week, from the eight weeks leading up to winter break through the four weeks after returning. Students play the Math Hoops board game, complete curriculum pieces, and participate in an incentive program that rewards top participants and sites with apparel, game tickets, and experiences with players. At the end of the season, the top students from each site are invited to attend their regional championship tournament and compete for the title of Math Champion!
Sessions 1-3 – Preseason/Draft
Students are introduced to the game of basketball, draft their team, and learn the game rules. First incentives are awarded!
Sessions 4-7 – Regular Season
Students compete in their first games of NBA Math Hoops. Nationally, NBA Math Hoops player events and game nights begin.
Sessions 8-10 – Trade Deadline/Regular Season
Students continue battling it out on the Math Hoops “court”, while getting a chance to rebuild their team for a playoff run.
Sesssions 11-12 – Math Hoops Tournament
Students compete for their site’s championship title and complete requirements to qualify for the National Championship. Top students from each site earn the chance to compete at the regional championship!
NBA Math Hoops National Championship
The top student from each participating NBA team’s community is selected to attend the National Championship, an incredible weekend-long experience that exposes students to higher education, STEM, and cultural experiences in the host community.
