Genomic Testing: promises and challenges

Genome scale testing is becoming common place in genetic medicine. The new testing technologies produce vast amount of data that is used to guide clinical decision making. With unprecedented diagnostic resolution, we are able to end the diagnostic odyssey for many individuals but these data also bring about a myriad of unresolved questions such as, “What should be done when an unanticipated finding is detected?”, “Should this information be released to the patient?” and “What are the medical, psychological and economic implications of these findings?”

In this free Genomics for Teachers session, educators will gain exposure to and participate in a discussion on the current challenges and promises of genomic testing. This workshop will be led by Surabhi Mulchandani, MSc MS LGC, Senior Genetic Counselor and Genomics Education and Outreach Manager at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
