This event will feature four teachers from the Philadelphia School District discussing how teacher networks developed and how they have responded in recent years to the changing educational climate of the city.
Philadelphia’s public schools are embarking on a reform effort of historic proportions. While the state takeover and reform efforts have sparked fierce public debate, the exact content and meanings of “reform” remain unclear. This series of seminars, lectures, tours, and public forums will grapple with the implications of the current changes in our school system and explore opportunities for a brighter future for public education in our city and region.
In an effort to stimulate a vibrant and constructive public conversation among community members, policy makers, educators, students and scholars, we will address a diverse range of issues, including teaching and learning, public and private management, charter schools, standards, education and employment, and the relationships between schools and neighborhoods. This series is sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania Urban Studies Program
and Graduate School of Education, Research for Action, and the Philadelphia
Education Fund.
