Campaign for Working Families – Tax/FAFSA Assistance Volunteers

Low-income working families are hit the hardest in these rough economic times.

Each year, the Campaign for Working Families helps save working families hundreds of dollars in tax preparation fees, ensures that they receive important tax credits, and connects them to valuable public benefits such as food stamps and heating assistance.

Over the past seven years, the Campaign has brought $124.2 million in state and federal refunds to working families throughout Philadelphia and prepared over 78,000 tax returns, saving low- and moderate-income Philadelphia families $19 million in tax preparation fees and other charges.

CWF has also opened over 1,200 new fairly-priced financial products and linked thousands of customers with additional benefits and programs.

The Campaign has scheduled informational sessions and presentations from returning volunteers on why they find this volunteer opportunity rewarding on Tuesday, November 17th and Thursday, December 3rd at 5:30 pm at United Way Building, 17th and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia.

To RSVP call 215-851-1759 or email [email protected].  To signup today to volunteer, click here.

This year, many of the Campaign’s tax assistance sites will offer free assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) along with its free tax preparation and other services.

The group is looking to partner with organizations who work with college-focused students and adults to make these services available.  Leading up to the tax season, it is looking for opportunities to table at events, provide presentations to community groups, offer flyers promoting the sites where we provide free FAFSA completion or create a blurb for any newsletters or listservs to get the word out to families.

If interested in partnering with the Campaign,  email Megan Kiesel at [email protected] or call 215-851-1759.
