Tacony Tool Library Launch

The Tacony Tool Library is now open!

We are extremely proud to announce that as of July 1st, the Tacony Tool Library is officially up and running! Come visit us at 5200 Unruh Avenue Section J, Philadelphia, PA 19135.

What is a Tool Library? A Tool Library is a collection of tools available to be checked out or borrowed for personal use. Just like a traditional library, a tool library requires a membership to grant access to its resources. Tool Libraries are very popular throughout the United States, but currently the only Tool Library in the area is in West Philly. Tacony Tool Library is a community resource for Philadelphia homeowners, small business and DIYers who need tools to complete projects, but can’t afford to, or don’t want to spend the money to purchase a new tool.

Once you have become a member, you will be able to borrow tools for free. Becoming a member is very simple. Visit our website (https://taconytoollibrary.myturn.com/library/inventory/browse) to sign up! You have the option to create a membership on the online portal on the website or in-person at Philly Reclaim. The suggested membership cost will be $9 a month or you have the option to choose a sliding scale membership of $1 for every $1,000 earned annually. For example, if you earn $60,000 a year, the suggested fee would be $60 annually. After creating a membership, you can browse the online catalog and reserve tools online before you come into the store to pick them up. You will be able to borrow 8 tools at a time for a 1 week period. There will be a late fee penalty for members who exceed the allotted rental period so make sure you set a reminder to return the tools!

Tacony Tool Library has a wide variety of tools available to borrow. The online catalog has hundreds of tools to choose from with more tools being added daily. In the near future, Tacony Tool Library will offer workshops for people with a variety of experience levels to learn new skills and create projects. These classes will be open to both members and the public. This tool library has the power to help many people in the Philadelphia community. We are very excited to welcome new members to the Tool Library!

We currently have a campaign to raise money for the launch of the tool library. Donations are accepted here: https://www.classy.org/campaign/tacony-tool-library/c291508. These funds will go towards the purchasing of tools and machinery, marketing, and the hiring of staff for the Tacony Tool Library. We would appreciate all the help we can get.
