Jacksonville – A Systems Approach to Assessment in Health Science Education
Application Deadline: 12/18/2008
Current Dates: 3/7/2009 – 3/13/2009
Upcoming Dates: 3/6/2010 – 3/12/2010
Program Objectives
Academic institutions engaged in the training of health care professionals are increasingly held accountable for the quality of their graduates and educational programs. Though considerable resources are being devoted to collecting assessment data on student learning, faculty teaching effort, and program quality, assessment systems which link the various evaluation elements and provide a ‘big picture” are often lacking.
Program Description
The program’s formal curriculum will address multiple aspects of academic assessment: student/resident learning and acquisition of competencies, faculty teaching and educational effort, program efficacy, and institutional alignment of resources and supports furthering its educational mission. Assessment theory and methodology, best practices in evaluation and accreditation, and applications of a logic outcomes model for assessment will be introduced in topic presentations, large group case discussions, small group literature analyses, and project groups. Informal consultations with participating leaders in the field of assessment will also be available. The program will prepare participants to develop and lead effective and comprehensive assessment efforts at their home institutions at multiple organizational levels.
