The Systems Administrator is responsible for providing infrastructure and desktop support and problem resolution on an enterprise level. As part of the core competencies of the position is also to be at an expert or high-level of competency in the core technologies of the company. Is also used as a technical resource when interfacing with upper management in the procurement of solutions that are technical in nature. This position also serves as a 2nd level support services in those solutions and can perform service and support across all levels below this position.
The first level of responsibility for this position is to maintain and control the current systems at an enterprise level. This includes the servers, operating systems, networks, and server applications currently running in production. Also includes monitoring the performance, availability, reliability, and security of all systems and will make suggestions where appropriate for status or change. Second level of responsibility includes the 2nd level support of same items. Works diligently to resolve issues or further escalate to 3rd or vendor levels if necessary.
This person also provides service to and has interaction with end-users. The position requires weekly status and monthly updates to higher levels of management on a per site and enterprise level. Acts as technical expert where needed and trained.
