Please join us Thursday, February 15th, 4:30 PM at Swarthmore for a talk by Dr. Amanda Keddie from Deakin University (Australia) who is this year’s Cornell Distinguished Visiting Professor at Swarthmore College.
To be successful in the current performative climate, students, teachers and school leaders must be entrepreneurial subjects who embrace an existence of calculation, competition and compliance. This form of business-oriented entrepreneurialism has been criticized as undermining the social and active citizenship goals of education. Being entrepreneurial however, is not necessarily about embracing these business imperatives. It can also align with social and active citizenship goals. Drawing on data from research conducted in Australian and English schools, this talk will focus on how these imperatives shape what it means to be a successful student, teacher and school leader.
