Support Black Family Technology Awareness Week (BFTAW)
Posted by on January 27, 2006
The Black Data Processing Associates (BDPA)-Philadelphia Chapter is requesting your support in the 8th annual Black Family Technology Awareness Week (BFTAW). The BDPA has been a proud supporter and is excited to host this year?s event. This year?s theme is Get Connected. Black Family Technology Awareness Week consists of lectures, seminars, and other fun-filled activities to educate families, individuals and students, in the world of information technology. The BFTAW is an avenue by which some will gather to learn more about today?s technology in a setting that otherwise may not be available to them?free of charge.
This event has been a repeated success due to community support in the greater Philadelphia area. We?ve experienced the support of clergy, religious establishments, community centers, libraries, recreation centers and African-American businesses, who understand the importance of the eliminating the Digital Divide. BFTAW expands the knowledge and education of its participants on computers, computer software, and the latest trends in technology. It also demonstrates how technology is incorporated into our daily life. This week can also be used for career development and higher education opportunities in the technology field.
To ensure such a success occurs this year, we are seeking support from organizations like yours who make an impact on families and individuals within our community. It is your presence and continuous interaction with our target audience that allows the BDPA to know you will make a contribution to the BFTAW by way of:
? Using your establishment as one of many host venues
? Recruiting volunteers from your organization that will facilitate seminars to teach, enrich, and empower
Among our present needs are potential venues in and around the city to conduct seminars on the technology topic of your choice and presenters to deliver. BDPA can also assist you in choosing the technology topic to present.
The BDPA is reaching out to you, an influential part of our society we know will help us help the children and families of our city become well-informed and knowledgeable in information technology. The BDPA believes in the quality of life through information technology. Won?t you help us disseminate this message?
If you are able to provide your facility as a host venue and/or support the BFTAW in recruiting volunteers to conduct seminars, please contact Donald Campbell at 215-665-2574.
