Summer Youth Garden Coordinator, Urban Nutrition Initiative

Qualifications
•    Extensive farm/ garden experience/knowledge of how to grow food
•    Experience working with high school aged youth
•    Ability to manage and coordinate garden programming
•    Excellent communication, teamwork and leadership skills
•    Basic computer skills

Responsibilities
•    Run daily operations at UCHS garden.
•    Facilitate youth experience and development
•    Prepare and instruct daily lessons on gardening and food systems.
•    Manage/oversee harvests for farmers markets (wed and sat)
•    Coordinate city harvest donations, mint sales, co-op sales 1 x per week
•    Facilitate volunteer and student groups and community work days
•    Work with college students to facilitate their experience and daily work in the garden.

Position details
•    Start date: May 11th
•    End date: Sept 1st
•    Compensation: $15 p/hr
•    30-40hrs per week ( full time)

Position Summary
The University City High School Garden and Sayre Courtyard Garden Programs would like to hire a summer Garden Education Coordinator. The position will be working with the Agatston Urban Nutrition Initiative as well as the Sayre-Penn Partnership to manage the Sayre and University City High School gardens, their youth programs and bi weekly farmers markets.

Responsibilities include training and overseeing a combined high school intern crew from both Sayre and University City High Schools.  This will involve: creating challenging and fun experiences for the high school gardeners, systematizing the day-to-day operations, maximizing the visibility of the garden in the schools, and engaging youth in the process of transforming our local food system.  This will also involve training interns in concepts of chemical free gardening, planting and caring for all aspects of the garden, and running bi-weekly farmers’ market at several locations in the city of Philadelphia.

This position will work closely with a team of AUNI youth development coordinators to integrate a food systems education curriculum as well as create curriculum to fuse food systems education concepts with different subject areas. The position will also work closely with the garden construction coordinator, college interns and volunteers.
