Summer Volunteers and Interns Needed!
Become a Food Stamp Advocate!
The Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger needs your help this summer to reach out to low-income people who may be eligible for food stamps. We are recruiting and training volunteers who will engage in food stamp pre-screening and assist clients in filling out food stamp applications. This outreach will be done at food cupboards, grocery stores, libraries, community centers and schools.
If you are a student at a local college or university, you may be eligible for funds through the work-study program or through campus scholarships to support summer research and service work. Both summer interns (more than 8 hours/week) and summer volunteers (2 or 3 hours/week) are needed!
Summer interns and volunteers will attend two training sessions to learn how to screen and assist households to apply for food stamp benefits. As a summer intern or volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work directly with low-income families in the Philadelphia community, develop valuable interpersonal skills and participate in the advocacy work of our organization.
In Philadelphia, over 100,000 low-income people are not receiving food stamps. Help us reach these families this summer!
Please contact Abby Youngblood at [email protected] or call 215-573-2379 to learn more and find out about upcoming training dates!
