Summer READS for existing summer programs
Posted by on March 12, 2004
Summer READS is here! Join us to learn about applying for summer enrichment opportunities for your existing summer camp on: April 1, 2004 at 9:30am OR 5:00pm at the Municipal Services Building, 1401 JFK Blvd. 16th Floor. RSVP for one of the above sessions at (215) 686-4450. Refreshments will be served.
Summer READS provides opportunities for students to practice reading and writing skills in a summer recreation setting. PHILADELPHIA READS partners with the Free Library of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, The Academy of Community of Music, National Schools and Community Corps, the Department of Recreation , the Police Athletic League and community of faith organizations to add learning enrichment to area summer programs. The summer program is divided into three unique components: Summer Reads Science, Reading, Writing and the Arts (SRW), Summer Literacy, and Training.
Each center receives: training, support and supervision from Philadelphia Reads, a mini library, start up materials, journals and much more. One Program Coordinator from each site will receive a stipend for program implementation. The number of centers named will be determined by the final grant allocations awarded to our program. Accepted centers are expected to strictly adhere to the program responsibilities outlined by Philadelphia Reads or risk forfeiting financial support. Application Submission Deadline: April 23, 2004.
Applications will not be distributed before April 1st.
