Summer Program Facilitators
Position Description

EducationWorks is now accepting applications for Summer Program Facilitators who provide formal instruction and enrichment activities in a day camp for children and youth in Philadelphia.  This AmeriCorps position requires 40 hours a week from June 20, 2009 through August 14, 2009.  EducationWorks operates summer camp programs at a number of sites throughout the city of Philadelphia.

Responsibilities:
•    Implement the Camp Literacy programs:  Focused Expressions, Fun Phonics, 100 Book Challenge/Research Lab and the Bluford Series books
•    Implement math games
•    Implement science and art activities
•    Work with multiple groups of Kindergarten-8th grade students
•    Prepare materials and lesson plans based on our “Growing Peaceful Communities” theme and the literacy and science curricula
•    Implement project-based learning activities with middle school students
•    Assist the Camp Coordinator with incorporating learning activities into trips
•    Work within the camp schedule and collaborate when the schedule needs to be adjusted
•    Attend all trips and special events
•    Assist with group coverage, recreational activities, and daily logistical camp support
•    Attend summer trainings and meetings

Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s degree
•    Certified elementary teacher preferred.
•    Experience teaching or working with children in an urban educational setting
•    Program coordination skills including: flexibility, professionalism, creativity, responsibility, ability to multi-task and work effectively as part of a team
•    PA State Criminal and Child Abuse Clearance; FBI clearance  (EducationWorks will pay for the processing fees for all clearances)
•    Health Assessment

Compensation:
•    Living allowance:  $438/week
•    Education Award:  $1000 (to repay qualified student loans or future higher education costs)
