Summer nutrition program running a book drive
Impact Corporation has been running a Playstreet and Summer Nutrition Program for Kensington children since 2008. Last year, the project had 740 children on 17 blocks getting their lunch every day, all summer long. Over 42,000 lunches were served last year.
Impact says that it tries to provide fun and learning opportunities for the children, not just lunch. So for this summer, the agency is doing a book drive so that each block will have a mini-library for the kids’ reading enjoyment. They are also collecting toys and sports equipment as well as craft supplies, and they use cash contributions to buy sprinklers, street chalk, playdough supplies, hula hoops, jump ropes, etc. Volunteers interested in leading games, crafts, and reading are also welcome additions to the program.
To participate, call Phyllis Martino at 215-739-1600 Ext 141.
