Summer Math and Science Honors Academy (SMASH) – Lead Instructor

Calling Philadelphia Area Educators! It’s hard to believe, but it’s already time for SMASH Wharton to start building our team for summer 2019. I am reaching out to you all specifically for support recruiting a Lead Instructor (LI) for our SMASH Summer Academy. The LI will serve as a member of the Site Management team along with myself, a Residential Director, and Program Coordinator; the duties are the following:
Pre-SMASH Academy
- Hire, train, and support a staff of 12 instructors (instructors will teach Math, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Design Thinking, Marketing, and Economics)
- Meet regularly with the Site Director and Site Management Team to plan staff training and support
During SMASH Academy
- Maintain presence in classrooms to build rapport with scholars and provide first person feedback to instructors
- Meet weekly with instructors to plan and assess scholar progress
- Participate in weekly Community Meetings with all staff and scholars
- Meet weekly with Site Director and Site Management Team
- Ensure scholars are on track to successful project completion
- Share leadership responsibilities of the Site Management Team in order to ensure site is amply supported
After SMASH Academy
- Submit grades
- Provide instructors with formal review and feedback
- Participate in Staff Debrief and Site Management Team Debrief
Lead Instructor Dates:
- Lead Instructor Start Date/Training – March 2-3 (2 day training)
- Scholar Interview Day – April 20
- Scholar Pre-assessments – June 5-7
- Instructor Training – June 22-28
- SMASH Academy – June 29-August 3
- Staff Debriefs – August 4
- Grades Due – August 5
