Summer Internships, Industrial Areas Foundation
Posted by on February 4, 2005
The Industrial Areas Foundation organizations in the northeast corridor, from Boston to Washington, are seeking to recruit, train, and develop a new generation of organizers to work in one of the groups that already exist and to assist in new strategies and targeted campaigns. IAF East is seeking women and men from colleges, graduate programs, seminaries, business and law schools, the military, and other professions who are interested in exploring careers in organizing. Opportunities include:
1. 2005 SUMMER INTERNSHIPS – The IAF East will sponsor summer internships for as many as 20 interested individuals.
? Time frame: 12 weeks, beginning Late May to Early August.
? Locations: Boston, New York City, Philadelphia and Baltimore-Washington.
? Stipend: IAF-East will provide a stipend to those participants who are not supported by other institutions (many colleges and graduate programs underwrite such activities). Participants who have no affiliation with an educational institution, who are working and supporting families, are very much encouraged to apply.
? Travel Costs While Working: IAF-East will cover the costs of travel once the participant is placed in a city and organization.
? Lodging: IAF East will assist those participants who do not live in either of the internship areas in finding low-cost and (if extremely fortunate) no-cost lodging. These accommodations – in convents, seminaries, or rectories — tend to be modest.
? Training and Mentoring: IAF East will provide an intensive orientation training of approximately three days at the start of the internship, will assign a senior organizer to mentor and supervise the work of the intern, and will evaluate regularly with the participant as the internship unfolds.
