Based in Philadelphia, OFN is the leading national network of community development financial institutions (CDFIs), private-sector financial intermediaries that work outside the margins of conventional finance to help underserved people and communities join the economic mainstream. CDFIs finance and train micro-enterprises and small businesses; invest in charter schools, affordable housing, and healthcare facilities; and provide affordable, responsible financial products and services to individuals and families. OFN’s Members have originated more than $50 billion in financing to urban, rural, and Native communities. Strategic Communications
Undergraduate internship available for Communications, English, or Marketing majors. Intern will be responsible for supporting diverse marketing communications efforts including entry-level public relations and social media, industry news research and journalism, Member Profile updates, collating data, editing, proofreading, and some original writing. Also will have opportunity to work on “mini-campaigns.” This internship will be stipended.
Strategic Consulting
Undergraduate and/or Graduate internship available. Candidate should be working towards completion of a business degree. Risk management, financial analysis and research abilities necessary. Prior consulting experience helpful. Intern will assist department staff in providing consulting services to CDFI funders, CDFI investors, and other non-CDFI parties with the goal of increasing their understanding of the CDFI industry and ultimately their capacity to invest in the industry. This internship will be stipended.
Development
Undergraduate and/or Graduate internship available. Candidate should be working towards completion of a degree in English, Marketing, Business, or Liberal Arts. Intern will assist department staff in research and outreach to corporations and philanthropic organizations interested in supporting and investing in socially responsible initiatives. Candidate must possess excellent research and writing skills, and have an interest in fundraising and partnership development. This internship will be stipended.
Financial Services
Undergraduate internship available for Finance, Accounting, or Risk Management majors. Intern will contribute to OFN’s annual portfolio review of loans to CDFIs and participation loans with CDFIs. Intern will assist staff in market research activities as related to lending initiatives and capital needs of CDFI Members. Excellent research, analytical, and accounting skills necessary. Experience with MS Excel required. Experience with reading financial statements preferred. This internship will be stipended.
Knowledge Sharing
Undergraduate internship available. All business majors considered with a preference given to those seeking a degree in Accounting, Finance, and/or Economics. The Intern’s primary responsibility is to confirm and analyze data on the Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) industry through Annual Member Survey as well as provide additional support to the Knowledge Sharing team. Data collection tracks information on CDFI capitalization, financing, operations and impact, and is critical to all aspects of our business. The Intern will review individual survey responses comparing them to the CDFIs’ financial statements such as audits and A/R aging reports. Knowledge and familiarity with Excel as well as basic financial statements and terms are essential. This internship will be stipended.
Corporate Finance
Candidate should be working towards completion of a graduate degree in the business field. The Intern would assist the COO, CFO, and other executive team members relating to specialized lending programs, CDFI industry financial statement standards, and OFN’s financial management. Specifically the Intern would assist with:
• Analysis and marketing of new Bond Issuances by OFN as an approved Qualified Issuer under the CDFI Bond Guarantee Program
• Analysis, communications, and marketing for Performance Counts, an industry wide effort led by OFN to create best practices and standards for CDFI financial statements
• Spreadsheet model design, preparation, and reporting to support the CFO’s efforts relating to internal financial management
The internship will allow the participant to develop and enhance his/her financial analytical, research, and organizational skills. This is an ideal environment for an individual seeking to gain practical experience with a financial services or non-profit organization and to work directly with senior management. This internship will be stipend.
