Summer Debate Academy
Posted by After School Activities Partnerships (ASAP) on June 22, 2015
Youth interested in debate will have the opportunity to learn the craft of Public Forum debate, including how to build a solid case, present compelling arguments, and leave opponents speechless during grand crossfire. After attending both weeks of the Summer Debate Academy, youth will have the skills and confidence to compete against like-minded peers in a culminating tournament, with topics such as “Resolved: In the United States, current income disparities threaten democratic ideals.” Participating in debate teaches youth to express their thoughts clearly, appreciate multiple perspectives and constructively resolve arguments with peers and adults. Debate also increases critical thinking, research, writing and public speaking skills — all of which translate to greater school success. The Summer Debate Academy is free, and ASAP/After School Activities Partnerships will provide tokens for students to travel to and from the academy.
