#036: PRE-COLLEGE ENGLISH Monday: (7/15, 7/22 & 7/29) Time: 6p.m. – 8p.m.
This 3-week course is designed to engage participants in the process of critical thinking, reading, and writing, as well as provide a review of the general mechanics of grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure. Those who complete this seminar will be better prepared for any level of professional / academic writing. All ages welcome! Fee: $50.00
#014-B: COMIC BOOK CREATION WS Saturday: (7/20) Time: 11a.m. – 4p.m.
The East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention (ECBACC, Inc.) offers the classic comic book creation workshop that started it all! Designed to help guide dedicated participants (professionals, amateurs and aficionados, alike) in improving their creative and artistic skills, this workshop is for anyone interested in art and the comic book industry. #017: HRS FACILITATOR INTENSIVE TRAINING WS Saturday: (7/27) Time: 10a.m. – 3p.m.
The principal aim of this Human Race Studies (HRS) 1-day certification workshop (Certification optional) is to prepare participants to become “public authorities” on this critical and multifaceted issue in “post-racial America” (Not!). Participants will be provided clear, factual, definitive information and data to address the critical issues related to notions of race, racism and ethnicity with the objective of creating a healthy human racial ideology. Fee: $50.00
#008-A: 501(c)(3): NON-PROFITS 101 Saturday: (8/3) Time: 11a.m. – 3p.m.
This course is designed to familiarize participants with an understanding of how to apply for tax-exempt status. It is not intended to provide legal or financial advice to participants. Participants will be referred to legal and accounting resources to assist should they decide to make a formal application for non-profit tax exempt status. Fee: $50.00
#022: ASAP CHESS CLUB / on-going Wednesdays Time: 4p.m. – 6p.m.
Held at West Polar Apts. Community Center – 637 N. 13th St. (13th & Wallace Sts.)
This Chess Club is offered in collaboration with the After School Activities Partnerships (ASAP). The FHI Chess Club is open to beginner and intermediate players ranging in age from 8 – 18 years old. Participants will learn critical thinking, pattern recognition and strategic planning. Join us this Summer! Fee: Free
#018: ENTRY LEVEL COMPUTER TRAINING CLASS / On-going
Held at West Polar Apts. Community Center – 637 N. 13th St. (13th & Wallace Sts.)
In this class, we will explore the five components of the computer and get hands-on experience using the system. We will discuss the challenges of keeping up in the fast-paced world of computers and the Internet. Computer literacy gives adults access to a considerable network of information and people. You will get hands-on practice using the Windows operating system, gain skill in using the mouse, and get experience with some useful computer programs. Fee: Free
#001 ROP: 1ST RITES FOR YOUNG MEN / 6 Wks. Time: 6p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Tuesdays ( 7/9, 7/16, 7/23, 7/30, 8/6 & 8/13)
This practical and reality-based 1st Rites Program, the longest-running public ROP in Philadelphia, will prepare serious-minded young men to pro-actively address the critical issues they will face by providing them with the strategies, information and resources they will need.
Fee: $50.00
#002: ROP FACILITATOR INTENSIVE TRAINING / 6 Wks. Time: 6p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Thursdays ( 7/11, 7/18, 7/25, 8/1, 8/8 & 8/15)
Here is a great opportunity to become a change-agent. This practical, solution-driven and reality-based 1st Rites ROP Practitioner / Facilitator Training Program will prepare practitioners to pro-actively address the critical issues and concerns of young men and make a direct impact on their communities.
