Summertime at Germantown Friends School (GFS) invites kids of all ages to explore their gifts, skills, and talents in a safe and funenvironment. The Summer Camps team is seeking experienced Camp Counselors to support GFS Summer Camps for Lower School students (Rising K – 5th Graders).
Sr. Counselors are an integral part of the camp experience and act as GFS Summer Camp lead teachers. They ensure the other camp counselors understand the plan for the day, check with the Day Camp Coordinator and Summer Camps Director on logistics for the day, and speak into all camp-related activities for their age group. They also help prepare, supervise, and mentor student counselors who are integral to the success of the camp. They are expected to work approximately 35 hours per week (Monday – Friday).
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate and revise daily theme-based, age-appropriate activities (movement, arts, outdoor play, etc.)
- Manage supply lists and inventory
- Manage weekly / twice weekly communications to parents summarizing camp activities
- Give support to campers who might benefit from reminders & redirection
- Supervise, offer mentorship and constructive feedback to student counselors
- Effectively communicate with other summer camp counselors and staff
- Engage fully in Summertime at GFS, sharing your passion for teaching, learning, and leading
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years or older to apply
- Must have (or be willing to obtain) PA Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Clearance, and PA Criminal
Background Check - Must be CPR/First Aid Certified
- 3-5 years experience working with elementary-aged children, preferred
- Experience in summer camp or other Out-of-School-Time settings, preferred
- Ability to work with adults and children from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
- Flexible, agile, able to work in fast paced environments
- Excellent and timely communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and desire to work in mentorship relationships
- Creativity, energy, and ability to exercise agility in educational environments
SCHEDULE
August 29 – September 2, 2022: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.)
- 8:00-8:30 am – prep with team & manage camper arrival
- 3:00-3:30 – manage camper dismissal & debrief with team
COMPENSATION: $18 – 22/hr
