SLAP Campus Coordinators JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
VZW Solidarity Campaign

Philadelphia Jobs with Justice is seeking a Student Labor Action Project (SLAP) Campus Coordinator to develop, implement, and provide technical assistance for student labor activists engaged in the VZW Solidarity Campaign.

Responsibilities and functions:
? Create technical support, educational and leadership development materials for student activists;
? Work with student labor activists on area campuses to develop their VZW solidarity campaign and launch in the Fall;
? Implement local plans for VZW Solidarity Campaign and coordinate with other SLAP chapters in the network;
? Coordinate local activities for National Days of Actions in support of VZW workers;
? Recruit students to attend educational workshops and events involving the VZW campaign, and to the SLAP Pre-Conference at the JwJ Annual Meeting in late September.
? Assist students with building relationships with CWA/IBEW local unions, community and faith-based groups, and serve as a liaison between student groups and JwJ coalitions;
? Work with JwJ to organize monthly VZW store actions, and/or other relevant actions;
? Participate in national planning, conference calls, and gatherings for the campaign;
? Provide technical assistance to students who are developing and implementing campaigns;
? Some campus-based research and material development;
? Provide monthly plans and reports to JwJ coalition and SLAP Coordinator.

Desirable skills:
? 2 years of student organizing experience;
? Experience with labor organizing strongly preferred;
? Prior experience developing and implementing campus-based campaigns;
? Strong written and verbal communication;
? Computer skills

Start Date:
This is a part-time position at 10 hours/week from July 5 through December 2005.

Compensation: $12/hour for 10 hours/week for about 24 weeks.
