With over $1.3 trillion in outstanding educational debt, affecting more than 40 million Americans, student debt is a crisis in this country. Programs like income-driven repayment help borrowers keep their monthly payments low, but these plans are too often mired in logistical complications that keep them from helping as many borrowers as possible.
The purpose of this event is to discuss the challenges borrowers face when enrolling and staying in income-driven repayment programs. The event will bring together local, state, and national activists, organizers, policy experts, current students, and student loan borrowers in order to learn more about participants’ experiences with the re-enrollment process and to bring the stories of borrowers back to D.C. to help inform policy changes.
We will also offer a workshop to help attendees better understand their repayment options and identify and remedy any potential stumbling blocks to enrollment or re-enrollment.
Dinner will be provided.
