POSITION REPORTS TO: Director of Programs, Steppingstone Scholars Inc.
General Description: Reporting to the Director of Programs at Steppingstone Scholars, Inc., the STEAM Coordinator oversees the Middle Grades Academy (MGA) at Tanner G. Duckrey Elementary School. The MGA is a joint effort between Duckrey leadership, Temple’s College of Education, and Steppingstone Scholars, Inc., which will provide activities-based Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics (STEAM) curriculum with in-school and out-of-school programs. The MGA will incorporate Steppingstone Scholars’ Support and Family Services, instructional support particularly around the STEAM related course work, and maximize the use of technology resources at the school. The Coordinator will facilitate communication between Steppingstone Scholars, Temple, Duckrey leadership, school staff, and outside organizations providing services to Duckrey Promise Academy.
The position is contingent upon grant funding.
QUALIFICATIONS: B.A. in Education or related field. Must have 3-5 years of experience managing in-school and out-of-school programs, collaborative relationships, and adept at liaising between organizations. The successful candidate should have demonstrated leadership ability, teaching, curriculum development (especially in STEAM related subjects), relationship management experiences, and demonstrated success working with educationally under-served youth. Driver license required for position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Support the implementation of Response to Intervention (RTI) strategies in the delivery of in-school and out-ofschool time programs.
• Coordinate and teach school based college prep program starting in 4th grade and math centered professional development for teachers focused on supporting high achieving students at neighborhood schools in partnership with Temple’s College of Education.
• Provide supplemental academic/school choice advice to Middle Grades Academy students focused on helping students and families find quality public school choices.
• Work with Steppingstone staff and Duckrey counseling staff to implement MGA student profiles, family workshops and school wide
• Coordinate in-school enrichment activities and partnerships focused on supporting teachers by developing STEAM related activities that are aligned with Common Core standards, Steppingstone’s curriculum, and identified college success skill sets.
• Coordinate afterschool STEAM programming and partnership activities.
• Collaborate closely with Duckrey’s Principal to align all middle grades STEAM activities with the Principal’s priorities for student achievement.
• Work with Temple’s College of Education faculty and the Director of Programs to coordinate evaluation and research efforts.
