State Policy Toolkit: College Preparation
Posted by National College Access Network on March 12, 2018
By Jack Porter, Advocacy Associate, National College Access Network
Last week, NCAN released the third component of our State Policy Toolkit. The five-part toolkit reflects the priorities outlined in NCAN’s Model State Policy Agenda, and aims to provide NCAN members and partners, particularly those in networks or coalitions, with resources to advance their own state policy agenda.
The latest installment, “Preparation,” outlines effective policies and programs states can promote to improve students’ college readiness. NCAN’s stance is that beyond financing higher education, states and statewide higher education systems should provide opportunities for all students to prepare for and succeed in higher education, particularly those who are traditionally underserved. This includes breaking down barriers within the system and building up students through equitable opportunity.

In case you missed them, learn more about how states can establish higher education funding strategies in the second toolkit piece, and don’t miss the first installment on how states can focus on need-based aid. We’ll release the following two installments on access and success over the coming weeks.
