Staff Attorney, Public Interest Law Center

The Public Interest Law Center seeks a Staff Attorney.
The lawyer will work on the Public Interest Law Center’s major litigation initiatives with a particular focus on cases involving employment and special education. The lawyer will be responsible for all aspects of such litigation including developing legal theories, factual investigation, research, discovery, trial, appeals and enforcement. The lawyer is expected to stay informed about the challenges facing the diverse communities in which we work and to identify high impact litigation solutions where appropriate. The lawyer also will be responsible for developing and implementing a wide range of strategies that complement litigation. Such strategies include building and participating in partnerships and coalitions, community education, advocacy, and technical support. The Staff Attorney will report to the Legal Director. The candidate must have at least at least five years’ experience practicing law, which may include service as a judicial law clerk. The candidate should demonstrate the following qualities:
1) excellent analytical abilities, well-developed research and technical skills; 2) demonstrated excellence in written work, including legal briefs and non-legal publications; 3) litigation or other dispute resolution experience; 4) experience in developing litigation or legal strategies; 5) initiative, creativity, and an entrepreneurial approach to new cases and strategies; 6) well organized, sound workload management, persistence, and excellent follow up skills; 7) experience in working with clients of diverse backgrounds including people experiencing poverty, individuals with disabilities, English Language Learners, individuals with Limited English Proficiency, and persons with criminal histories; 8) collaborative skills and capacity for teamwork with colleagues and clients; and 9) enthusiasm about our mission.

The position is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The salary and benefits are commensurate with experience.
