Philadelphia Education Fund presents the Education First Compact, Monthly Speaker Series

Join us on Dec. 5, 2019, 7:45-10:00 AM at Philadelphia Education Fund (PEF), 718 Arch Street, Suite 700N, Philadelphia, PA 19106 for breakfast and discussion.

Some would say, if Special Education is so “special,” why is it chronically underfunded? And how does this impact education in Pennsylvania for all students?

According to a recent analysis by the Education Law Center and PA Schools Work, the cost of special education increased 58% in Pennsylvania while state funding increased only 10%. The research argues that the burden of raising the missing dollars has fallen on local school districts — a stopgap that is not sustainable.

Our speakers will reflect on these issues, at the systems level and in Philadelphia classrooms, and will review current thought around funding solutions.
