The goal of this convening is to bring together college, university, and community gardens with a common mission of addressing food insecurity. The primary purpose of the event will be to strengthen and reinforce progress made through the 2017 Sowing Change convening regarding the establishment of a regional support network for campus and community gardens, and to continue to grow the network of programs
Keynote speaker will be Allison Hess, Associate Vice President of Health and Wellness at Geisinger Health, and one of the founders of the Geisinger Fresh Food Farmacy.
Breakout Sessions include:
Breakout Session #1 – (a) Data Tracking for Productivity and Fundraising
(b) Recruiting, Managing, and Maintaining Volunteers
Breakout Session #2 (a) Social Media, Outreach, and Event Promotion
(b) Establishing Sustainable Community Partnerships
A resource table for sharing program information will be available in the registration area. Attendees are encouraged to bring brochures, event fliers, or other information about their program or organization that they would like to share.
Additionally, we are hosting a “seed swap”, and invite any of our participants to bring seeds from their garden programs or home gardens to trade.
Poster Session: Participants are invited to create formal poster displays illustrating aspects of their program or organization, or to share research and assessment findings. These posters will be on display throughout the event, and there will be dedicated time during the lunch break for guests to speak with representatives from the programs on display. You can indicate if you plan to bring a poster display on the registration form.
