MAP Fund Invites Applications for Socially Engaged Live Performance Projects

Through project grants and artist services, the MAP Fund supports contemporary artists of all abilities and backgrounds whose work challenges canon and convention and, by extension, ableist, cis, hetero-normative, and Western cultural dominance.

To advance this mission, the fund is inviting applications for its 2020 grants program. Through the program, grants of up to $45,000 will be awarded in support of original live performance projects that embody a spirit of deep inquiry, with a focus on works created by artists who question, disrupt, complicate, and challenge inherited notions of social and cultural hierarchy across the United States. Projects must include the creation, development, and/or the initial presentation of a new, live performance. Up to forty-five projects are awarded grants annually.

MAP is committed to intersectional anti-racism and does not support cultural appropriation or oppressive project language, structures, or content.

Individual artists who do not have their own 501(c)(3) may submit an application, though MAP does not fund individuals directly and a U.S.-based tax-exempt nonprofit organization must act as a fiscal sponsor. The sponsoring organization must have received nonprofit certification before July 1, 2018, and must fall under one of the two following categories: the applicant organization is a registered nonprofit organization that has committed to offering artistic creation or producing support and/or presentation of the proposed project; or the applicant organization is a registered nonprofit organization that offers fiscal sponsorship only (i.e., meaning no intent to develop, produce, or present the proposed project).

See the MAP Fund website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.

Deadline: November 25, 2019
