The Social Worker 2 is responsible for providing direct services to youth/young adults and managing the clinical/therapeutic aspects of the Achieving Independence Center. The AIC serves current and former dependent care youth ages 16-21. It is a one-stop center located in Center City Philadelphia, and provides housing, education, employment, life skills, mentoring, health & wellness, counseling, goal planning and creative outlet services to young adults. Nearly 1400 young people access the site each year.
The following expectations apply for the Social Worker 2:
– proactive de-escalation with youth in crisis,
– individual counseling
– referrals for on-going mental health services as needed,
– facilitation of mediation sessions and on-going groups to address trauma-related issues,
– self-esteem development and other wellness topics.
Responsible for support groups related to pregnant and parenting youth. The Social Worker 2 will partner with all staff members to positively influence the culture of the site from a positive youth development framework. Additional duties include educating & training program staff, supervision of up to 1-3 staff members, and management of MSW field placement programming.
The Social Worker 2 shall be mature individual with the ability to articulate and implement the philosophy of the Independent Living Program. The Social Worker 2 will possess sound judgment, clinical, communication, and youth work skills. This person must possess a clear understanding of the Child Welfare System, and its impact on children, adolescents and families. A successful candidate will be adept at multi-tasking, prioritizing needs and making sound decisions in crisis situations. The Social Worker 2 will be trained in mediation and de-escalation techniques, and develop experiential education/adventure-based counseling skills. She/he shall never have been convicted of any child abuse offenses. She/he shall possess a minimum of three years experience working with adolescents, supervising staff members and a Master’s Degree in Social Work/Professional Counseling.
Starting salary in low-mid $40s. Includes benefit package – generous vacation/sick/personal time, medical coverage, dental, 401(k), training stipends and tuition reimbursement. The AI Center is open during non-traditional business hours and Saturdays.
