We connect people with food assistance programs and nutrition education; provide resources to a network of food pantries, and educate the public and policymakers about responsible solutions that prevent people from going hungry.
The Coalition is currently seeking a dynamic, creative, and outgoing SNAP Outreach Coordinator to develop campaigns that make low-income communities aware of SNAP (formerly food stamps) and other benefits that help to keep food on the table. Responsibilities include:
Partnership Development
Devising new strategies for reaching target populations, such as immigrants, elderly through the development of partnerships with relevant community organizations
Identifying new outreach sites and build relationships with key staff
Overseeing relationships and staffing of current SNAP outreach sites
Helping to build the capacity of partner organizations, such as food pantries, by providing SNAP training to staff and volunteers
Promoting partner programs that incentivize using SNAP to purchase healthy food
Developing outreach materials for the campaign that are tailored toward specific outlets, such as businesses, health centers, etc
Partnering with school district and child welfare agencies to reach out to working families with children
Volunteer Management
Overseeing SNAP volunteer recruitment and training among student and community members
Scheduling and preparing community training materials
Facilitating volunteer meetings to promote quality assurance
Providing overall supervision for all SNAP volunteers
Producing all volunteer communications pieces, including website updates
Summarizing SNAP policies and present them for training
Advocacy & Education
Devising vehicles for engaging volunteers in advocacy work when appropriate
Providing hunger education/SNAP Education & materials at speaking events/presentations/fairs
Other
Providing SNAP pre-screenings and application assistance when necessary
Answering SNAP Hotline and Coalition phones
Assisting with grant development and reporting as necessary
Assisting with planning and implementation of the Walk Against Hunger, World Food Day, and other Coalition events
Performing other administrative duties as necessary under direction of SNAP Campaign Manager
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree plus two years experience in a relevant field, or four years of relevant working experience.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent coordination and time management skills.
Flexibility, collaborative spirit, and strong organizational skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation and proof of adequate vehicle insurance coverage
Experience in SNAP or other public benefits.
Comfort with public speaking to both small and large audiences
