SITE DIRECTOR, ST. JOSEPH’S UNIVERSITY
POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT AND JOB DESCRIPTION
Founded in 1995 as Summerbridge, Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia is a six-year academic enrichment program that builds a path from middle school to college for low-income students from Philadelphia and Camden. Breakthrough also inspires talented high school and college students to become educators and engaged citizens by giving them responsibility for teaching in the program. The organization operates programs at three sites and serves students from Germantown, West Philadelphia, North Philadelphia, Olney, and Camden, NJ. Breakthrough emphasizes academic excellence, leadership, family involvement, teamwork, creativity, and diversity. Breakthrough is based in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia. Position Overview:
The St. Joseph’s University (SJU) Site Director oversees the development and delivery of Breakthrough’s middle school programs at SJU. The Site Director reports to the Senior Program Director.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Plan, develop, and implement a quality educational program for Breakthrough 7th and 8th grade students at the SJU site during the summer and school year sessions
• Recruit, train, and manage high school and college students to serve as intern teachers in summer and school year sessions
• Recruit and screen middle school students to enroll in the program
• Recruit veteran teachers to serve as coaches for intern teachers
• Assist in development and acquisition of summer and school-year program curricula that prepare students for admission to selective high schools and college
• Serve as an educational and personal resource to students and families
• Advise students about academic options for high school
• Maintain accurate student records in database and student files
• Maintain positive relations with SJU administration and faculty
• Develop relationships with other youth development organizations, community agencies, and educational institutions in Philadelphia
• Participate in cross-department planning to help shape organization initiatives
• Participate in developing and promoting the vision of the organization
• Perform other tasks as required
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Three years experience with schools or youth development organizations, especially in the areas of education, recruitment, advocacy, and program implementation
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proven management and organizational skills; ability to initiate and follow through on tasks and projects
• High energy, flexibility, and sense of humor
• A car
• Experience working with the Philadelphia School District preferred.
• Breakthrough/Summerbridge experience preferred.
Compensation:
Up to $40,000 (depending on qualifications) plus excellent benefits package that includes employer-contribution to retirement plan and free tuition at SJU
