Promoting Childhood Physical Activity and Healthy Nutrition

PHILADELPHIA CHILDREN ARE FACING A HEALTH CRISIS
– Nearly 1 of every 3 Pennsylvania school children is overweight or obese.
– Among low-income 2 to 5 year olds in our state, 27% are overweight or obese.
– Overweight or obese children are at greater risk of serious illnesses such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease.
– Overweight kids have a 70% chance of becoming overweight adults; 80% if a parent is overweight.
