Service Year + Opportunity Youth Summit – Dec 3
Posted by Service Year Alliance on November 13, 2018
Service Year Alliance invites you to join us for the first-ever Service Year + Opportunity Youth Summit on December 3, 2018.
The Service Year + Opportunity Youth Summit is a full-day exploration of the ways that service year programs of all types improve outcomes for opportunity youth.
Opportunity youth, sometimes referred to as disconnected youth, are American youth aged 16-24 who are neither in school nor employed. Service years — full-time paid service experiences that develop real-world skills through hands-on service — are a powerful but little-understood strategy to change the life trajectory of opportunity youth.
About one third of full-time service year opportunities today are targeted at opportunity youth through various programs. Service Year Alliance and other advocates are looking to expand service year opportunities for young adults of all backgrounds through a variety of growth and policy strategies. In addition, we will work to identify effective strategies to remove barriers to education and employment for opportunity youth through service and enable them to pursue their dreams.
With inspiration from experts and those who have a lived experience as opportunity youth, the Service Year + Opportunity Youth Summit will provide a deep and rich exploration of the ways that service year programs of all types could improve outcomes for opportunity youth. We hope that you can join us!
