Service learning internship at Villanova
Work with a group of faculty at Villanova University to develop and support a summer program for 13-17 year olds. The program addresses the urgent need for enrichment activities that encourage more young people, especially underrepresented minorities, to pursue science, engineering, and mathematics careers. The goal of the summer program is to use service learning to get youth excited about science. You will be responsible for counseling and engaging teenagers in different science and theatre lessons provided by faculty. You will support the teenagers in the development of a "magic school" performance that will be presented to under-served Philadelphia children. Through this involvement, you will contribute meaningfully to education, engage teenagers in a service learning program, and witness the magic of science and theatre.
Details: Service learning interns will be paid $200/week, working approximately 8:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday – Friday. Interns are required to provide their own housing and transportation. Lunch will be provided each day.
Schedule:
July 5th – 7th: Support faculty in the preparation of the summer program
July 10th – 28th: Counsel summer program youth and support them in their performances
July 31st – Aug 4th: Support faculty in the wrap-up, assessment and documentation of the summer program
