A 2-Day Conference: June 27-28, 2005
You are invited to join a group of the most exciting speakers and practitioners in the country on the subject of inspiring youth to be active and engaged citizens.

A conference highlight will be a presentation by Robert Putnam, whose best-seller Bowling Alone has created a national dialogue on renewing civic spirit. This conference is for you IF:
-you are an educator open to new ideas and opportunities to create meaningful partnerships between your students and their community.
-you work in a nonprofit organization and are looking for ways to engage youth in your mission and programs.
– you are an education administrator or a local school board member seeking leadership strategies and policies that integrate authentic community learning experiences for students with curriculum.
-you are a local or state government participant who would like to bring the energy, insights, and skills of young people into the public forum.
-you are an interested citizen concerned with enlivening and enriching the public life of your state and community.

Citizenship is about acting, not just listening. So is this conference. Participants will engage with each other to design creative strategies for their work back home. You will leave this conference not just with a folder
and a bag, but with exciting ideas, new energy, and a network of new friends
and resources.

A 3-Day Service-Learning Summer Institute for Educators: June 29-July 1, 2005
Based on the award winning KIDS as Planners service-learning model, discover the steps in creating a quality service-learning experience in partnership with students and community organizations. This Institute will be an interactive, collaborative learning experience, with experienced practitioners sharing their creativity and expertise. Institute participants will develop project ideas integrated with curriculum requirements and assessment models, and practice strategies to build a collaborative environment in the classroom and help students reflect on and celebrate their work.
